All creatures are beautiful, and the Rhino is no exception. There are 5 species of this big rarity - Black, Sumatran and Javan rhinos are critically endangered, White rhino are near-threatened and the one-horned rhino are vulnerable.<\/p>
Illegal wildlife trade is the main reason for their population decline, especially for their horns, which is made of the same stuff as your fingernails. The tragedy doesn't end there, once the Rhino has been killed, poachers cover their carcass in poison to kill vultures and stop them circling overhead (which alert authorities to their position). Vultures are incredibly important to the eco-system as they remove disease from the food chain with their incredible guts!<\/p>
What can you do?<\/strong><\/p> Spend a little time learning about Rhinos and ways to help them. Two primary factors for badger deaths are being run over by cars, which accounts for as many as 50,000 per year and culling.<\/p> Every year a cull takes place in England authorised by the government in an attempt to reduce the spread of bovine Tuberculosis. There is no evidence to support this but there is direct evidence to contradict it.<\/p> Read more about it in our blog<\/a><\/p> Badgers have a very strong sense of community and family. Like humans they live together with their families (clans).<\/p><\/li> They live underground in tunnels called setts which can be up to 100 meters long and over 100 years old<\/p><\/li> They have toilets, keeping their homes clean and safe to live in<\/p><\/li> They pass down their setts to through the generations<\/p><\/li> They forage for earthworms, insects, bulbs seeds and berries. What's more they love fruit!<\/p><\/li><\/ul> Contact your local MP (England Only) to raise your concern and try to stop the cull - get a free action pack from National Badger Trust <\/a>to make it easy<\/p><\/li> Drive slower and extremely carefully around country roads<\/p><\/li> If you see a badger in or by the side of the road, try to protect it by parking near and putting your hazards on. DO NOT try to move it and call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999. <\/strong>This is because, not only may it be able to be rescued, but it may be a parent and the cubs could be rescued from starvation<\/p><\/li>You're culling me?!<\/h3>
